Robert B. Gerard received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1977, and his Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1980. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1980 and admitted to the Nevada State Bar in 1995. Mr. Gerard has developed a practice emphasis in construction defect litigation with a very successful record of settlements and jury verdicts in favor of the condominium associations, homeowners and commercial property owners that he has represented. Since 1984, his firm has recovered over $30 million dollars in property settlements and verdicts. Just recently, Mr. Gerard was also co-counsel in two San Diego County-wide class actions for homeowners with polybutylene plumbing. The cases settled in May 1995, at an estimated value of approximately $80 million. In June of 1995, Mr. Gerard participated in the drafting of the State of Nevada's first construction defect statute, S.B. 395, which provides for greater relief to homeowners who have purchased defective properties. This statute provides for mandatory mediation as well as the recovery of experts' and attorneys' fees to the homeowners if they prevail in their claim. Mr. Gerard was a guest speaker for the Nevada State Bar seminars on construction defect litigation in 1996, 1998 and 1999. Mr. Gerard's knowledge of construction issues, complex litigation procedures, and his past working relationship with most construction experts and attorneys in California and Nevada promotes a thorough and effective presentation of a construction defects case.
